So, I only thought the parade was in the evening. It was in the afternoon so Claudia and I hurried down to Plaza Espana, a 5 minute walk, and saw so fun things in the parade. There were so many people, or so we thought. The main street it was on was Gran Via and you could barely walk. So then we got back to the apartment and Trina, our hostess, had dinner ready. A cold pasta salad some fried, so of, chicken and little cheese sticks. Muy delicioso! Our friends Rosa and Cristina and her husband Ralph were suppose to meet up with us the apartment. It kept getting later and later and I had a HORRIBLE headache so I decided I would just take a shower and call it a night. However, just a minute after deciding that our door rang and they were here. The party was still going, just getting started really, down in the plaza. So off we went, mind you it's about 11:30 P.M. It was so much more crowded now versus during the parade. All of the streets around Grand Via were now full and people were everywhere. They had an awesome DJ and lots of stands where you could get drinks. So we got sangria and it was very good. We danced and had a great time. However, as the night progressed there were more and more people... drinking, smoking, dancing, kissing... so we decided about 1:30 to go ahead and leave and we were getting a little claustrophobic. I have to say that Madrid really knows how to party. I don't foresee anything like what I experienced last as ever happening in the U.S., much less such a huge party celebrating the gay population. I thought it was wonderful and had a great time. However, there were people peeing everywhere and it was pretty nasty and dirty. You can smell the pee, alcohol and everything else even in the morning. It's very nasty. Any way, on to the rest of the evening! Claudia and I said good night to Rosa, Cristina and Ralph and headed on our way. About 1/2 way home we realized Ralph still had our keys. So we RAN through the crowd trying to get to the metro station they were taking. We finally got there and just as they were about to go down the elevator to get to the trains we saw them and called out to them and got our keys. We found out later that the only reason they weren't already on the train was because Rosa's euro wouldn't work to get a ticket. We were SOOO lucky! We got back to the apartment and slept for 12 hours. I think we were just so tired from the traveling and walking every where! We have a few pictures from the evening, but I have to steal them off Cristina's FB page once she posts them since I didn't take anything with me to the party!
